The Vineyard

Vertus is one of the highest rated Premier Cru villages.

It is famous for its Chardonnay. The domaine benefits from a unique microclimate with deep, chalky subsoil and clay and limestone deposits. The family's 4 hectares of vineyards are located on south-east facing slopes so they get maximum sun exposure, which is extremely important for the grapes to ripen in the cold northern climate This terroir is perfect for Chardonnay and gives minerality and elegance to the wines. Most of the plots are planted with Chardonnay to produce Maurice Matisse champagne although there are still a few plots with a fantastic Pinot Noir.
